Practical cases

MCAP has been providing all kinds of companies and organisations with custom solutions for cable and glass-fibre assemblies since 1987. To give you an impression of the innovative capacity and cooperative approach of our engineers, we provide a number of practical examples here.

Solutions and applications in practice

It would be too big a task to sum up all the practical solutions we have developed with our suppliers and customers. Therefore we have picked a few good examples.

Easy-break cables for hospital beds. In emergency situations it must be possible to move a hospital bed quickly. In the past, this resulted in cables being yanked apart and broken. Thanks to the easy-break cables, these connections now disconnect without damage and can be used again and again.

Easier cable pulling and less breakage. In 1998 we developed a mechanical protection device for glass-fibre cables in power plants and distribution stations. This reduced damage suffered by duplex glass-fibre cables during installation. Recently this device was improved and replaced by a thinner version with a smooth jacket. As a result, it is now even easier to install the cables and there is less chance of connector breakage than in the past.

Expanded beam for TV broadcasting trucks. Until a few years back, TV broadcasting trucks had a reel with a conventional cable for every camera. Through the use of glass-fibre cable combined with expanded beam connectors, smaller reels are now used. Benefits for the customer: more bandwidth, less weight and occupied space in the broadcasting trucks and greater reliability in a dirty environment.

Fewer failures through use of different type of coax cable. One of our customers had problems with frequent failure of the connection to a measurement instrument. This was due in part to the way the connection was made, which included the use of sealant as a form of mechanical strain relief. Through the use of a different, longer coax cable the mechanical strain relief provided by the instrument's own connector could be used. The intermittent problem with the connection has been resolved, and if a problem does occur, it can now be repaired easily.
